Malleefowl birds building and maintaining a mound nest
We volunteer for the Victorian Malleefowl Recovery Group to monitor Malleefowl mounds to gauge the breeding population of this incredible bird which is sadly a threatened species in Victoria. This occurs annually at the start of summer - today we were treated to the amazing sight of a bird maintaining the mound to regulate the temperature of the core which contains the incubating eggs. It was quite magical!
